Age-Related Macular Degeneration

A new drug is coming on stream which reduces the number of treatments.

The injections are not as bad as they sound. The eye is anaesthetised and the needle goes in the corner of the eye and is not seen by the patient. Routinely given by qualified nurses as well as the surgeons.

The treatment cannot restore sight if there is already significant scarring of the macular, We have to say it again :-

                                                                   SPEED      SPEED      SPEED

If you are not offered prompt appropriate treatment you must press for it.  It is your eyesight, your quality of life.

WET AMD can be treated only IF CAUGHT EARLY.

Left untreated, the condition can deteriorate very quickly and permanently.

Drugs are injected into the side of the eye. Usually given at monthly intervals for 3 months and then less frequently depending on progress.
